WhatsApp gets regular limelight for introducing and testing new features. Soon after the news of WhatsApp developing prominent AI-powered features, the company now plans to enhance the status viewing experience. In the latest move on Android, WhatsApp is developing an option to share notifications about status updates to users.
According to WABetaInfo, the option will be available in an upcoming version of WhatsApp. The feature is "under development" in the Android beta "2.24.8.13" version and is not ready for release to testers. Similar to the feature, the company is also developing an option to send notifications to users if they get mentioned in a status update.

WABetaInfo speculates that some notifications may get invoked if users have not seen a status where they received a mention. This will help them follow up on updates where their contacts have mentioned them. Secondly, these triggers could be linked to interactions with users on WhatsApp. The Meta app may notify users about the statuses of their favourite contacts and keep users updated about their latest activities.
It will also help prioritise notifications from contacts to improve relevance. While the reasons and factors for notifying users remain unclear, the feature will help improve status viewing experience and reachability. Beta testers must keep their app updated to ensure they receive the feature whenever it starts rolling out in the trial phase. Meanwhile, Meta is also working on AI-powered image editing and chatting tools on WhatsApp.
