Meta-owned WhatsApp continues to grab headlines for developing new features within the UI of the messaging application. Soon after working on privacy-focused avatar sticker updates and AI-powered chat and image editing options, the company is now developing a new interface on Android to help users improve status sharing in the Updates tab, according to WABetaInfo.

According to the report, the company was spotted working on the option in the Android beta '2.24.7.16' update, and it is not rolling out to beta testers as it is an "under development" feature. This comes days after WhatsApp started rolling out the option to let users upload one-minute videos as status updates in the beta program.

As per the screengrab shared in the update, users may soon get more options to switch media within the text upload status interface. The app's upcoming composer for status may allow users to easily switch between text, video and photo formats. The new UI will likely be a part of the future status updates tray redesign.

With the move, it seems the company could push the choice to switch between media and text in one composer, eliminating two different options. It will also offer the advantage of easily toggling across different media modes (without switching screens) and save time. On a related note, the company is now also rolling out the option to manage media upload quality in the settings for beta users.

Available on the '2.24.7.17' Android beta update, the feature is available within the 'Storage and data' option in settings. Users can choose between Standard and HD quality options to send videos and photos. While the default option saves data, and files are sent faster due to their compressed size and quality.

With 'HD' mode, users can enjoy high-quality output for more details. However, it is not similar to sending original quality media. Instead, you can use the upload as 'Documents' option to send original quality photos and videos. You can read a how-to guide on this here.
