Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp gets regular limelight for testing new features. Soon after testing filters to help users manage storage, the platform is now testing an updated interface for the status updates tray. Spotted in the Android "2.24.10.10" beta update, the new tray is rolling out to beta testers. According to WABetaInfo, the update will start rolling out to more users soon.

In a previous version of Android (2.24.4.23), the company was developing the new status updates UI. However, it was not rolling out on a testing basis. The updated interface will allow users to preview the changes without opening a status of contact. While the Status placement remains at the top, the updated interface adds an expanded preview for status, as per the attached screenshot shared by the WhatsApp tracker.

The new design allows users to ensure accessibility and visibility of status when opening the tab. This updated UI will also enable users to get a preview of the first unseen status via the thumbnail-like interface. The new interface also comes after mixed reactions on the horizontal layout earlier. Readers should note that the update is currently in beta and not rolling out in the stable build.

Meanwhile, the company is also working on an option to hide community group chats. Spotted in the Android "2.24.10.13" update, the feature is under development and not rolling out to testers enrolled via the Google Play Store. Based on the screengrab in the report, the option to mark community group chats as hidden will be available via an icon next to the group's name.
