WhatsApp New Feature: Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp gets regular limelight for testing new features and introducing them in the stable build. In this series, the company is testing a chat filtering feature to help users manage storage occupied by the data shared on WhatsApp. The feature is rolling out to beta users on Android in the beta version "2.24.10.8" update, according to WABetaInfo.

The three filters within the "Manage storage" option can be accessed to check chat-wise or channel-wise storage occupied on the app. This comes after the chat filters on the home screen, allowing users to view "All", "Unread" and "Groups" chats. In the new update, the feature is rolling out within the app's settings inside the "Manage storage" option of "Storage and data".

Using these filters, people can filter the list of conversations in the section to check the storage details for only the chats with contacts using the "Chats" option. If you want to check the storage occupied by Channels data, you can choose the "Channels" filter. To view a compiled list, users can tap the "All" filter.

The filters can help users identify which chats and channels consume the maximum amount of space and let them clean storage. Further, it can ease bifurcation between different forms of content received on WhatsApp. WABetaInfo noted it can help better differentiate between a business account and its WhatsApp channel.

The new filters for storage management can offer better isolation while managing chats and help users avoid accidental data deletion instances. Meanwhile, the company is also testing a reaction option for messages within the media viewer. Spotted in the Android "2.24.10.7" beta update, the option is available at the bottom, next to the reply bar. It can help users quickly react to messages within the media viewer screen.
