WhatsApp New Feature: After announcing an option to send instant video messages on the Meta-owned app, the company is now letting beta users manage the video button in chats using a toggle in the settings. According to WABetaInfo, this option is available within the 'Chats' section in the settings.
According to the report, the toggle is now available to 'some testers' who updated their WhatsApp on Android and iOS from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Beta version '2.23.18.21' on Android and test version '23.18.1.70' is a compatible build to try out the feature.
From the screengrab shared in the report, it is clear that users can now manage the option from the settings using a toggle. The description of the 'Instant Video Messages' toggle reads: "Lets you tap to switch between using voice and video message." With the update, users can disable the tap-to-switch mechanism for instant video messages in the conversation window.
While the option was active by default, it seems an option to disable it may arrive soon for the public. This option may prove helpful for users who only prefer sending audio messages and turning off the video option completely. However, even with the feature turned off, a user will continue to receive instant videos.
Speaking of updates on instant video messages, WhatsApp rolled out the option to record and share videos straight from the chat. A user can send up to 60-second videos as responses or new messages. A user can tap on the voice icon that sits at the bottom right of the conversation menu to switch to video mode.
The videos are played automatically once a user opens the chat. A single tap on the media plays the clip with sound. These messages are end-to-end encrypted. You can read more on this here.
