WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging app, gains the limelight for testing new features regularly. In the latest build on iOS, the company is now testing a communities tab for Apple iPads. The beta feature is undergoing testing in the iOS beta "24.13.10.74" version via the TestFlight Program. According to WABetaInfo, the 'Communities' tab is undergoing testing in the beta build and is expected to roll out to more users in the future.
As per the report, the company was spotted working on the community tabs in the chat list in May 2024. The feature would separate communities in the toolbar at the top of the chat list on iPhones and iPads. For context, the organisation was discarded against chat filters. In the latest build, the communities are rolling out to beta iPad users.

WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to bring a communities tab to iPad, and it's available to some beta testers!

As per the screengrab shared in the report, the communities tab is available at the centre next to the 'Calls' and 'Chats' tab. Previously, the feature was considered with limitations because an iPad was marked as a linked device. According to the report, the experience was inconvenient as the users had to manually navigate to communities between other conversations.
The dedicated tab can be a decent option to navigate across communities from the Apple iPad. People can manage and create communities via this tab, a feature earlier limited to primary devices. This limited people from using communities as a feature. Users can also view a comprehensive list of communities they joined in the past.
iPad users can update their app from TestFlight. However, the new feature release is not live on the Apple App Store. Plus, the ongoing beta program is full and does not accept new testers. Meanwhile, the company is also testing an events feature on Android for group chats. You can read more on this here.
