WhatsApp New Features: Meta's instant messaging application WhatsApp was recently in the news for testing a new status 'Updates' interface for Android users. While working on improving the experience for these users, the company is equally focusing on catching up on features on the web. In a recent update, the platform is working on introducing the secret code feature for users on the web client, WABetaInfo reported.
According to the report, the "under development" feature is not currently being released for users. Two weeks back, the WhatsApp tracker also reported about the development of Chat Lock on the web. The feature will be complemented with a secret code to ensure that users get to enjoy private and secure chats across platforms.
Based on the screengrab shared in the report, the company could ask users to enter a secret code to view locked chats on an account. Users will be able to enter the code that was configured on the primary smartphone. This will ensure better privacy of sensitive chats, which can only be accessed using a PIN.

This can help add another layer of security to sensitive conversations with contacts, which can help maintain privacy for people who regularly switch platforms to use WhatsApp as other users will not be able to access these without entering the secret code. Meanwhile, WhatsApp was also spotted developing the core functionality of locked chats for the web platform.
On a related note, the company is working on a new status updates tray for users on the app. It will help improve the status viewing experience of users while making the 'Updates' tab more intuitive. Plus, channel owners enrolled for beta on Android and iOS are also getting the option to transfer the ownership of their channel. It can help delegate responsibilities to other admins on the Meta app. You can read about these updates here.
