Xiaomi HyperOS new features: Xiaomi's latest software update, dubbed HyperOS 3.1, is just about to drop soon, and it seems like Xiaomi wants to leave no stone unturned. With enhanced support and visual upgrades to the software, which you might say has been inspired by some other popular UIs out there, there is one big detail that you shouldn't miss, and this might come as a disappointment to some users who still have the older hardware. As per the latest reports, this update will only run on devices supporting Android 16, according to Xiaomitime.

What Can You Expect From HyperOS 3.1?

There are quite a few upgrades that Xiaomi is planning to introduce this time, and the list is tall. Something that Xiaomi has been building upon is the "stacked layout style" for recent apps. iPhone users will be familiar with this kind of layout. A horizontal scroll where apps are lined up one after the other.

Hyper Island Makeover

The HyperIsland is also getting an upgrade, as the company has decided to add a Super Island settings page and lets the user decide which apps get associated with animation effects. Apart from functionality, it is also getting a visual makeover with new light effects on the media progress bar, etc.

Desktop And Lock Screen Customisation

HyperOS 3.1 will make home screen organisation more flexible. Users will be able to resize folders using drag and drop, with new 2×1 and 1×2 layouts. Folder page turning will allow more apps to stay hidden without clutter. The lock screen will also get built-in photo editing to simplify depth effects and widget placement.

With more on the anvil, Xiaomi has also announced the release of HyperOS 3 Beta phase 2 recruitment for testing its latest software update. It will take place in two phases, with the first phase starting January 22, 2026. But this is exclusively for users in China. The second rollout will begin on January 30. As this is just a test build, it is not recommended to use on primary devices.
