YouTube, Google's popular video streaming app, has launched the multiview feature on YouTube TV and YouTube (w/ Primetime Channels). It will be available for users of "WNBA League Pass" subscribers and allow users to view multiview streams when watching the game on a smart TV or a streaming device.
According to YouTube Help, multiview will allow users to watch four streams at a time on one smart gadget, such as a smart TV or a streaming device (Fire TV Stick or Chromecast). "YouTube's multiview feature allows you to watch multiple pre-selected live games simultaneously within a Primetime Channel," the Help page added.
YouTube Multiviews: How to Use?
A pre-set multiview is a group of up to four live games displayed simultaneously in one stream. Multiviews "may appear" on a smart device on the Home tab in the "Recommended multiviews" and "Watch Next" while viewing live games. They will also be available on the Primetime Channel's home screen, where multiview are live for NFT and WNBA channels.
Once the user opts for multiview, the audio from "left or top-left stream will be highlighted by default" and played. A user can switch audio via the directional pad on the remote. To view captions or access audio tracks, a viewer must scroll down until the player controls appear on the screen.
A user can press "Select" on the selected screen to view one stream in full screen and press the "Back" button to move again to multiview. At the moment, the company is offering "curated feeds". However, more flexibility and new options will debut in the future. Currently, mobile and web do not support multiview.
Speaking of more updates, the company is testing a 'Lock Screen' feature to curb accidental touches on the screen while watching videos. Plus, to further enhance the experience, an option to fast-forward the video via a long-press is also in the works. The tech giant is also reportedly testing the option to allow users to play games via the browser on a smartphone.
