Hyderabad News: A protest by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers in Hyderabad turned chaotic when a healthcare worker slapped a police officer. The incident occurred during a demonstration by ASHA workers, who were demanding a salary hike to Rs 18,000. The protest escalated when the woman, who was being escorted by the police in a truck, reportedly injured her foot while attempting to board. In frustration, she slapped a cop.
ASHA workers, who play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, have been pushing the Telangana government to fulfil its promise of a salary hike, which has not yet been implemented. Several protestors were detained by police as tensions rose during the demonstration.

The situation worsened when a woman fainted during the protest and was promptly taken to Osmania Hospital, where her condition is reported to be critical. The police's intervention to disperse the crowd led to heated exchanges and jostling between the officers and the protesting workers.
This protest is part of an ongoing movement in which ASHA workers are demanding better wages, improved working conditions, and additional rights. Despite the Telangana government's recent announcement of paid maternity leave for ASHA workers, many believe that further action is necessary to address their concerns.
In response to the police's handling of the situation, K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), condemned the treatment of the protesting ASHA workers, referring to them as the "mothers of Telangana." He took to social media to question Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, asking why the ASHA workers were being treated poorly. "What sin have they committed that you are dragging them on the roads?" he asked, highlighting that many of the protesting women belong to Dalit and weaker sections of society.

Rao further stated that the Chief Minister has failed to implement the six guarantees promised to the people and has added an "emergency" as a seventh guarantee.
He also called for immediate medical assistance for Santoshi, an ASHA worker whose condition is critical, urging the government to ensure she receives the best possible treatment. KTR concluded by urging the Chief Minister to address the issues faced by ASHA workers promptly.
