Hyderabad News: A junior female doctor was reportedly assaulted by a patient at the state-run Gandhi Hospital on Wednesday, September 11. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM in the hospital's Casualty department.
According to the Gandhi Junior Doctors Association (JUDA), the patient, a man in his 60s who was allegedly intoxicated and mentally unstable, assaulted the intern while she was performing her duties. According to PTI report, the man grabbed junior doctor unexpectedly, leading to a physical confrontation.

CCTV footage of the event showed the man grabbed the doctor’s hand and pulling her by her apron, while other medical staff rushed to her aid. Staff and patients intervened, rescuing the doctor and overpowering the assailant.
Following the attack, the patient attempted to escape but was apprehended by special protection force (SPF) personnel at the hospital's main gate. He was subsequently handed over to the police stationed on-site, with the Chilkalguda police informed of the incident.
The Gandhi JUDA condemned the assault and demanded immediate action to ensure the safety of medical staff and interns. They called for a thorough investigation into the incident and measures to prevent future occurrences. The association has officially reported the matter to the Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.
A senior police official stated that the man, who had been admitted to the hospital by family members, is accused of misbehaving with the intern. A police team arrived at the hospital after the incident was reported via the emergency service, 'Dial-100'. The security staff at the hospital assisted in handing over the accused to the police.
This incident follows the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, which sparked nationwide protests, including demonstrations by doctors in Hyderabad. Following that incident, many doctors staged a boycott of their duties, chanting “No Safety, No Duty,” voicing their concerns about the safety of medical professionals.
