In a separate news, the water level in the Munneru River, located in Khammam, was recorded at 13.10 feet at 6 PM on Sunday, September 9, showing a steady decrease. The local administration remains on high alert due to forecasts of heavy rains in the upstream areas of the river.
The water level had surged sharply late on Saturday night, prompting officials to evacuate residents from nearby colonies along the Munneru River banks to relief camps. Authorities have instructed district officials to remain vigilant despite the receding water levels observed on Sunday evening.
The Munneru River's level was noted at 13.10 feet at 8 PM on Sunday. Officials have established warning thresholds, with the first alert set for when the water reaches 16 feet and a second warning at 24 feet. Earlier this month, the river had peaked at a record 36 feet, resulting in significant flooding and destruction in surrounding areas.
Following last week’s floods that caused extensive damage in Khammam and nearby villages, authorities have directed officials to stay prepared for any emergencies to safeguard lives and property. Khammam Collector Muzammil Khan has announced a holiday for all educational institutions within the Khammam Municipal Corporation and rural mandal on Monday, September 9, 2024, due to the anticipated heavy rains in the Munneru catchment areas.
