In order to expand the roads of Hyderabad, the Telangana government is allocating significant funds to the urban development sector. Municipal Administration Department Principal Secretary Dana Kishore on Friday issued orders getting approval for the amount as part of the H-City (Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure) initiative by the Congress government. The order stated that a total of Rs 5,942 crore was allotted for the expansion of roads in Hyderabad.
The order further stated that the authorities should call the tenders immediately and start the construction work using the funds. Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the development projects under H-City. The Telangana government has initiated major projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore with an aim to transform the city into a future IT hub. The government has planned to develop the city, considering several factors, including increasing population and evolving infrastructure needs.
One of the officials stated that the plan is to develop the city with “Vision - 2050,” and building world-class infrastructure in the capital city is a top-notch priority for CM Revanth Reddy, the New Indian Express reported. One of the major challenges that Hyderabad is facing in recent years is heavy traffic because of the increasing population. To tackle the issue of traffic congestion, the government has come up with plans to build flyovers and elevated corridors.
The government has allocated Rs 8,996 crore for roads within GHMC as part of the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure Project (HCITI).The state government has also allotted Rs 596.2 crore for the construction of flood canals to tackle the issue of waterlogging and flooding in the top regions of the city.
The government is also building an elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari at an estimated cost of Rs 2,232 crore. Earlier, Revanth Reddy also laid the stone for a double-decker elevated corridor. The government has also approved Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro project, announcing that it will reduce the traffic congestions and will be beneficial for the daily commuters. A total of Rs 24,237 crore will be spent on the project spanning 76.4 km.
