The Balapur laddu, which is considered to bring prosperity and good luck to the buyer was auctioned for a record Rs 27 lakh this year in Hyderabad. The laddu which weighs 21 kg was secured by Dasari Dayanad Reddy, who is a real estate agent from Turkayamjal, beating 36 other bidders.
Dayanad Reddy said he will distribute the laddu to his family members and friends on October 2, commemorating Gandhi Jayanti. He also said he has been the highest bidder for laddu at Turkayamjal for the last 10 years and that it has brought him success in his business ventures.

The Balapur laddu auction is the most awaited event of the Ganesh festivities in Hyderabad, especially on the day of immersion. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event, which started in 1994 when Kolam Mohan Reddy bought the laddu for Rs 450.
The bidding touched seven digits in 2002 when Kondade Madhav paid Rs 1,05,000 for the prasadam while the last year, it was secured for Rs 24.6 lakh by Vengeti Laxma Reddy of VLR Builders. The laddu auction was not held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the organisers gifted the laddu to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao instead.
