It is believed that the moon purifies the body and mind on Sharad Purnima night by dripping elixir (amrit) through its rays. According to a mythological tale, Ravana would also use a mirror's reflection on his Navel to gather amrit from the moonlight on this particular night.
2. Maa Lakshmi’s Visit:
It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi visits homes of those who remain awake, chanting and praying sincerely throughout the night.
3. Kheer Ritual:
People prepare kheer(sweet rice pudding) and keep that in the moonlight that night. The tradition of keeping kheer in moonlight is not just symbolic — the cool rays are believed to enhance its medicinal value.
