2. Maharashtra

Maharashtra ranks second in sugarcane production. In 2023-2024, the state produced 105.99 million metric tons, up from 100.15 million metric tons in the previous period. The state's well-developed sugar mills and favourable farming conditions help maintain its strong position in India's sugar industry.

3. Karnataka

Karnataka is another major sugarcane-producing state, with a production of 53.40 million metric tons in 2023-2024. The state has a well-established sugar industry and benefits from a good irrigation system.

4. Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu's sugarcane production in 2023-2024 stood at 14.41 million metric tons. The state faces challenges such as water shortages, but sugarcane remains an important crop for many farmers.

5. Gujarat

Gujarat produced 13.36 million metric tons of sugarcane in 2023-2024. The state’s sugar industry is well-supported by irrigation facilities and favourable weather conditions.

6. Bihar

Bihar's sugarcane production saw a decline, with 11.39 million metric tons in 2023-2024. The state has a long history of sugarcane farming, but inconsistent rainfall and other factors have impacted production levels.

7. Haryana

Haryana recorded a sugarcane production of 7.46 million metric tons in 2023-2024. The state's farmers benefit from modern farming techniques, but unpredictable weather conditions sometimes affect yields.

8. Punjab

Punjab produced 7.99 million metric tons of sugarcane in 2023-2024. The state’s agricultural advancements and irrigation facilities contribute to stable sugarcane production.
