J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter universe, not only gave life to the character of Hermione Granger but also recognised the hidden talent of Emma Watson, making her rise to global fame. However, the once-unbreakable bond between the author and the actress has been deeply tested by diverging views on transgender issues, leading to public clashes and a heartbreaking rift. Now, Emma Watson has opened up about this complex dynamic, stating in a recent interview that despite their disagreements, she still cherishes her past experiences with the author.
Emma Watson has always been vocal about addressing important issues and expressing her opinions. The actress recently appeared on the ‘On Purpose’ podcast hosted by Jay Shetty and spoke about the current situation between her and JK Rowling. She shared, “I don’t believe that holding the love, support, and views that I have means that I don’t treasure Jo. I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I can keep loving people with whom I don’t share the same opinion.”

The actress further added, "In this world right now, we seem to be giving permission to throw out people. That’s wrong. I believe that no one is disposable. Whatever the conversation is, everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. I think the thing I'm most upset about is that a conversation was never made possible." She also praised the author for supporting her and admitted that there is no world where she can ‘cancel out’ her existence.
Emma Watson shared, "There's just no world in which I could ever cancel her out, or cancel that out, for anything. It has to remain true. It is true. I just don't know what else to do other than hold these two seemingly incompatible things together at the same time and just hope maybe they will one day resolve or co-join themselves, and maybe accept that they never will, but that they can both still be true. And I can love her, I can know she loved me, I can be grateful to her, I can know the things that she said [about me] are true, and there can be this whole other thing."

Confirming to the chances of reconciling with the Harry Potter author, the actress revealed that she is open and will always be welcoming to the idea. For the unversed, Watson and Rowling gained the public’s attention in 2020 when the author tweeted critically about an article that used the phrase "people who menstruate" instead of "women". She has since posted numerous tweets that invalidated transgender people's identities, according to the critics, and harmed the trans community.
She also criticised actors like Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, saying they "can save their apologies" for supporting a movement she believed eroded women's rights. Emma Watson, in 2020, expressed her thoughts and publicly supported the transgender community after JK Rowling faced criticism for her anti-trans tweets.
