During Perry’s visit to Japan — part of her ongoing Lifetimes Tour — she accompanied Justin Trudeau on an official engagement as he met former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko, on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The gathering was marked by warm gestures and festive cheer, with the group posing beside a decorated Christmas tree. Kishida, 68, later posted the photo on X, referring to Perry as Trudeau’s “partner,” a detail that quickly drew attention online.

In his Japanese-language caption, Kishida reflected on his past working relationship with Trudeau during their time in office. He recalled their multiple meetings as world leaders, as well as his visit to Canada, where the two collaborated closely on strengthening bilateral ties, including the development of the “Japan-Canada Action Plan.” Kishida expressed his pleasure at maintaining their friendship even after their political roles had shifted, emphasizing how meaningful it was to reconnect in such a warm and personal setting.
