Robert Redford, the Hollywood icon known for films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Out of Africa, has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 89. According to The New York Times, Oscar-winning actor-director died at his residence in the mountains outside Provo, Utah, on the morning of September 16. No specific cause of death was given; he died in his sleep.
According to Cindi Berger, chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, Redford died in his sleep. Berger didn't disclose a specific cause of the actor's death. The statement read, "He was in the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved."
A screen legend whose career spanned more than six decades,he earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for 1973's The Sting, won the best director award for 1980's Ordinary People and received another Best Director nomination for 1994's Quiz Show.
In 2002, Robert Redford was the recipient of the Honorary Oscar. During his accepted speech, he said, as quoted by People, "I've spent most of my life just focused on the road ahead, not looking back. But now tonight, I'm seeing in the rearview mirror that there is something I've not thought about much, called history."

All About Robert Redford And His Filmography
Born on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, Calif., Redford was a student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He made his film debut in 1959 with Tall Story and received immense praise for his performance. This was followed by a lead in 1963's Barefoot in the Park, which he reprised in the 1967 film adaptation alongside Jane Fonda. In the early 1960s, his onscreen career began with roles on TV shows like Tate, Route 66, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, among many others.
He rose to fame in 1969 when he landed the role of the Sundance Kid in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid alongside Paul Newman. Since then, he has captivated audiences with his performances and directorial work throughout his decades-long career.

Some of his most memorable works include The Way We Were, The Great Gatsby, All the President's Men, The Natural, Indecent Proposal, The Horse Whisperer and All Is Lost. His directorial film credits include Ordinary People, A River Runs Through It, Quiz Show,, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Lions for Lambs and several others.

In March 2024, Robert Redford returned to the screen, marking his final on-screen acting appearance with a cameo in the AMC series Dark Winds.
In personal life, Redford is survived by his wife, daughters Shauna and Amy and grandchildren.
