Singer and actor Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco are quite open about their relationship. In a recent interaction, the American singer revealed that Benny Blanco's whirlwind romance has given her the courage to overcome past relationship baggage and has led her on a journey to finding love and trust again.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco graced Jay Shetty's podcast to discuss their love story and how dating turned into a bond forever. The singer talked about how her last relationship experience made it difficult to embrace a new one. She said, "I think, you know, it's very hard for me. And like Benny said, in the beginning, it was very difficult for me to take trips away. It just makes me feel... once I understood and got to know him, and I wasn't afraid to tell him, like, 'Hey, I just want to make sure it's not that I don't trust you, can you just text me before you go to your next thing?' And I was able to do that with him, and he wasn't combative. He wasn't like, 'Why don't you trust me?' It was just like, 'Yeah, I could totally do that.'"
Revealing how this gesture from Blanco made her trust again, the singer stated, "And with that, day by day, I feel more and more open... and we're going to be separated again while I go shoot in New York, and yeah, I'm ready for it. I think it's doable, but it's not fun. Basically, he taught me to trust again."
The couple met each other in 2013, but after 10 years, they began dating in 2023 and got engaged in 2024. Gomez shared what made her take so much time to be in a relationship with Benny Blanco. She said, "I think for me, I necessarily felt like in other situations of mine, it was... I was very reactive. I think that's why I was alone for five years because I really needed to collect myself. I think in the past, that's why I say to him all the time, 'Ten years ago, it's not that I wouldn't have wanted to be with you. I just wouldn't have been in the right headspace, and I don't think that you deserve what I had gone through before.' So, I've learned a lot of lessons, and I've made mistakes, and... I just want this to be right."

The singer revealed how her fiancé helped her believe in love again: "So, for me, that was a lesson that I had to learn because I think girls can equally want to be right. That, for me, was really difficult in the past, and he's made it unbelievably easy, to the point where, if I even get to the point where I'm so frustrated, he's very quick to understand. He says, 'I hear you,' like, 'You're allowed to feel that,' and that helped me shift where my mind used to go, which was a little bit of anger," she continued.
Gomez didn’t stop there, she praised Blanco, saying he is her comfort zone. "I respect Benny because he's done nothing but respect me. I, again, trust him. I can tell him anything, even if it's about something that's uncomfortable," the 'Who Says' hitmaker added.
Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco got engaged in December 2024. They revealed how Gomez's mother played the role of cupid in their relationship back in 2013, when they first met. Not only in their personal journey, but the couple is also enjoying their professional collaboration. They released their album I Said I Love You First on March 21.
