With US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris continuing to allege that former US president Donald Trump will not concede his defeat if he loses the 2024 presidential election, the Republican nominee, in a fresh interview on Wednesday, characterised January 6, 2021, as the day when thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, DC, attempting to prevent the formal certification of his election loss, as a ‘day of love’.
At a town hall event with a Latino audience organised by the Spanish-language television network Univision yesterday, a participant expressed to Trump his desire to allow the former US president to ‘win back his vote’ citing concerns about the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, according to Reuters.
Trump claimed during a Univision town hall, "That was a day of love for the millions—it's like hundreds of thousands," while misrepresenting the size of the crowd present that day.
On that day, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, DC, resulting in millions of dollars in damages. Four individuals lost their lives during the attack, and one Capitol police officer who engaged with the rioters died the following day.
Trump also claimed that former administration officials who had turned against him expressed frustration over their dismissals.
As he concluded his remarks, Trump stated, "I hope someday maybe we’ll get your vote. It seems like I might not, but that’s alright too."
Biden Expresses Concerns Over Potential Violence Following Trump’s Loss
Trump also reaffirmed his discredited assertion that immigrants in Ohio were consuming pets, telling Latino voters during a town hall that he was “just relaying what was reported.”
Earlier in August, President Biden stated that he is "not confident at all" that there will be a peaceful transfer of power in January 2025 if former President Donald Trump is defeated.
