In a chilling incident, paranormal investigator Dan Rivera, 54, was found dead in his Gettysburg, Pennsylvania hotel room on Sunday, July 13, and the infamous Annabelle doll he had toured with was missing from the scene.

Rivera, a US Army veteran and lead investigator for the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), had just concluded a sold-out “Devils on the Run Tour” at the haunted Soldiers National Orphanage. The event featured the notorious Annabelle doll, which was once housed by famed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren and is believed to be cursed.

Annabelle Missing from Scene

When first responders arrived at Rivera’s hotel room in Straban Township, they discovered his body, but Annabelle was nowhere to be found, according to Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow, who spoke to People on Friday, July 18. Dutrow confirmed that the doll was not in the room at all, adding a disturbing layer to an already eerie situation.

The cause of Rivera’s death remains unknown, and authorities have yet to release autopsy results. The Pennsylvania State Police noted in their report that “nothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene,” although paranormal enthusiasts believe otherwise.

Rivera was a familiar face in the world of supernatural investigations, appearing on the Travel Channel’s “Most Haunted Places” and serving as a producer for Netflix’s “28 Days Haunted.” His work with NESPR included touring the country with the Annabelle doll, sharing chilling accounts of its supposed powers with the public.

Origins Of The Curse

Annabelle first made headlines in the 1970s, when a nursing student named Donna reported strange behaviour from the doll. According to Ed and Lorraine Warren, the doll moved on its own, followed people around, and acted maliciously, traits that cemented its reputation as one of the most haunted objects in the world.
