The infamous Annabelle doll, best known from The Conjuring movies and real-life paranormal lore, is making headlines again, this time as she tours the United States as part of the “Devils on the Run” exhibition. Organised by the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), the tour offers a rare and chilling opportunity to see the haunted artefact that once resided in the now-closed Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.

Launched in May 2025, the “Devils on the Run” tour is being led by Ryan Daniel Buell, a former paranormal investigator from Paranormal State. Buell has been documenting the tour on TikTok, where his posts featuring Annabelle have racked up millions of views and sparked widespread discussion.

A Sinister Past: The Origins of Annabelle

Annabelle’s history dates back to the 1970s when she was gifted to a nursing student in Hartford. What seemed like a harmless ragdoll quickly turned sinister. Reports of the doll moving on its own and even attacking one of the roommates’ fiancés prompted the involvement of famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. After a formal exorcism, the Warrens declared that Annabelle was being manipulated by a demonic entity and placed her in their museum, warning others never to touch her.

Ed and Lorraine Warren determined that Annabelle was not possessed by a child’s spirit but was being controlled by a dangerous demonic entity. They sealed the doll in their Occult Museum under strict containment, warning that it should never be moved.

A common question people ask is: "Why is Annabelle being taken out of the Warrens' museum?" Some wonder what Ed and Lorraine Warren would think of this. Paranormal investigator Ryan Buell has responded, explaining that Ed and Lorraine Warren themselves used to take Annabelle and other haunted artefacts out of the museum several times a year. Their goal was to educate the public about the dangers of the occult and paranormal forces. The current tour, Devils on the Run, follows that same tradition, bringing awareness, not entertainment.

Annabelle has gained infamy not just through films but through chilling accounts tied to her presence. During her recent stop in New Orleans, chaos seemed to follow. Ten inmates escaped from a local jail, and a fire destroyed the historic Nottoway Plantation shortly after her arrival. Social media exploded with theories, ranging from joking memes to serious accusations linking Annabelle’s presence to the bizarre events.

"I thought it was all just internet humour," local resident Nealon told USA Today. "But people actually believe something supernatural is happening. Some even blame the Ghost City Tour for unleashing Annabelle’s curse."

Next Stops On ‘Devils On The Run’ Tour

Annabelle’s next stop is Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she will be on display from July 11 to July 13. Following that, she will travel to Rock Island, Illinois, from October 4 to October 5. Both destinations are already bracing for large crowds, and, perhaps, unusual occurrences.
