A viral video circulating on social media claims US President Donald Trump has cancelled Pride Month 2025, allegedly calling it a “sin” and proposing to rename it “Confidence Month.” The clip, which shows Trump speaking from the Oval Office, has sparked outrage and confusion online.
“It is with great pleasure that I am announcing that Pride Month is cancelled. Pride is a sin ... instead June will be known as confidence month or maybe just June," Trump allegedly stated in the video. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage and confusion across social media.
I know he’s the president and all… but can Trump really just cancel Pride Month? Unreal. pic.twitter.com/QRe5PJChAI

The video is digitally altered. A community note attached to the post clarifies, “Digitally altered video. In the original video, Trump is delivering an Easter celebration message.” Trump has made no such statement regarding Pride Month, and there is no official announcement or executive action supporting the claim.
This isn't the first time such misinformation has surfaced. On January 24, a viral X post falsely claimed, “BREAKING: Trump just signed an EO banning gay pride month.” This claim gained over 1.5 million views but was not based on any actual policy or document. No executive order banning Pride Month exists.
Trump Administration’s Shift On DEI Policies
Trump has not cancelled Pride Month, but his administration has taken actions that indirectly affect LGBTQ communities. On January 27, he signed executive orders eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs from the military and reinstating service members discharged due to vaccine mandates. These actions, though not aimed directly at LGBTQ individuals, have raised concerns about broader inclusivity under his administration.
Corporations Pull Back From Pride Events
As the political environment changes, some major companies are adjusting their public support for LGBTQ causes. Mastercard announced it will not renew its sponsorship for NYC Pride in 2025, though it still plans to participate. Other long-time sponsors such as PepsiCo and Nissan have also withdrawn their support for this year’s event.
The retreat from Pride sponsorships comes as transgender rights become a flashpoint in US politics and the Trump administration increases pressure to eliminate DEI initiatives. Companies are also facing economic uncertainty driven by tariff policies, making them more cautious about aligning with polarising causes.
June is still officially recognised across the United States as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ community’s contributions, history, and rights. The viral claim that Trump cancelled Pride Month is false.
