Portland coffee culture: Portland, Oregon, has been officially declared the nation's most coffee-loving city by a new report from WalletHub. The city topped the list after a review of 100 of America's largest cities based on 12 key factors, such as the number of coffee shops per capita, affordability, customer ratings, and home coffee consumption habits.

The report points out Portland's vibrant cafe culture, where residents have a high density of well rated coffeeshops. Most of these cafes provide free Wi-Fi, making the city a popular place for students, freelancers, and telecommuters who balance work with a daily cup of coffee.

Portland coffee culture extends the city beyond cafes. WalletHub's research indicates that nearly one in four Portlanders owns a home electric coffee grinder and more than 25 per cent have single-serve brewers or pod machines in their homes. On an average, Portland homes spend about USD 192, that is, Rs 17,000 every year on coffee, which is close to the national average.

Other Cities Following Closely

Trailing Portland are Orlando, Florida; Long Beach, California; Miami, and Seattle. Orlando was in the second position because it is economical and has a range of coffee shops, and it costs households a median of USD 154 per year. It also has coffee festivals and has the most donut shops per capita.

Long Beach took the third spot, lauded for the concentration of highly rated cafés and citizens' frequent quest for good coffee. Median yearly expenditure in Long Beach is approximately USD 171, with above-average possession of espresso makers. Miami came in a close fourth, and Seattle, generally regarded as the birthplace of modern coffee culture and a stronghold of Starbucks, took fifth place.

Coffee remains an integral part of American culture, with WalletHub indicating that 66 per cent of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis. The nation as a whole consumes more than 519 million cups every day, a testament to the beverage's long-standing popularity among all segments of society and geography.

In contrast to bigger cities such as New York, where rapid takeaway coffee is the norm, Portlanders are more hands-on with their coffee. Well-rated, affordable cafes combined with a strong home-brewing culture provide a unique coffee experience. According to WalletHub, these factors contributed significantly to Portland securing the top spot in the nation’s coffee-friendly city rankings.
