In a shocking incident, Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), was found dead at her home on Saturday morning, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed in a statement. Aber’s death comes just two months after she resigned from her position, following the start of Donald Trump’s presidency. The cause of death remains unclear, and an investigation is currently underway.
Authorities discovered Aber’s body at her residence in the 900 block of Beverley Drive, Virginia, around 9:18 AM. The APD is working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding her passing.
Jessica Aber’s Legacy in Public Service
Aber, 43, was a highly regarded attorney who played a pivotal role in major legal cases during her tenure. She began her career in the EDVA as an assistant US attorney in 2009 and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2015-2016, she served as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice (DoJ) before returning to EDVA as Deputy Chief of its Criminal Division.
Her work included overseeing the prosecution of high-profile cases, such as securing convictions for an MS-13 gang leader, the former governor of Virginia, and individuals involved in fraudulent schemes. She also contributed to investigations against Russian nationals accused of conspiracy and fraud, as well as a case involving a man who illegally facilitated the entry of Israeli citizens into the U.S.
Appointment and Achievements
Jessica Aber was appointed as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2021 by President Joe Biden. Her nomination was unanimously confirmed by the Senate, a testament to her competence and integrity in public service. Throughout her career, she was known for her dedication to justice and community engagement.
She once told The Washington Post that she travelled over 50,000 miles across Virginia in her Hyundai, actively engaging with students and community leaders to foster a stronger connection between law enforcement and the public.
Born in California in 1981, Aber pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Richmond before earning her law degree from William & Mary Law School in 2006. Her commitment to public service and the rule of law defined her career.
