President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk appeared to patch up their relationship during a brief encounter at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, signalling a potential thaw after a tumultuous year. The interaction, captured on video and shared by the official White House account on X, has been analysed by lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling, who revealed the details of their conversation.

“Elon came over and said hello,” Trump told reporters after the memorial. “I thought it was nice, he came over, we had a little conversation.” According to Hickling, Trump greeted Musk with, “How are you doing?” and added, “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat.” He then suggested, “Let’s try and work out how to get back on track.” Musk nodded in response, while Trump tapped his hand and said, “I’ve missed you.”

History Of Support And Fallout

The brief exchange appears to signal of easing tensions between the two influential leaders, whose relationship had been strained publicly. Musk, who was a former staunch supporter of Trump, gave more than USD 270 million to his presidential campaign. Musk, after Trump's return to the White House, appointed him to head up the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a divisive effort to cut back federal government waste.

Public Feud Over Legislation

Their fallout began after Musk resigned as head of DOGE, citing disagreements with Trump’s signature One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Musk warned the legislation could “cost taxpayers billions and increase government debt,” sparking a very public feud. Trump responded by calling Musk a “b--- artist” and threatening federal contracts with his companies. At one point, Musk also hinted that federal authorities might possess damaging information on Trump related to the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Signals Of Reconciliation

In June, Trump amplified the conflict on Truth Social, writing, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!” Musk, meanwhile, briefly supported Trump’s impeachment on X, stating that JD Vance should replace him.
