A 33-year-old American woman, Brianna Lafferty, has gone viral for sharing her extraordinary near-death experience, claiming she was declared clinically dead for eight minutes, only to return with a life-altering insight. Her account challenges the conventional perception of death, which she now believes is simply “an illusion.”
Brianna, a resident of Colorado, had long battled myoclonus dystonia, a rare neurological condition that causes uncontrollable muscle jerks. The condition escalated after she suffered from severe insomnia, sleeping only minutes at a time over several days. Eventually, she was declared medically dead.
Out-of-Body Revelation
But what followed was no void. “I was suddenly separated from my physical body,” Brianna recalled. “I didn’t see or remember my human self. I was completely still, yet more alive and aware than I’ve ever felt.”
She described entering a realm beyond time, a space filled with peace, intelligence, and unconditional love. "There was no pain, just deep clarity. Everything happened at once, as if time didn’t exist, but still followed perfect order."
Brianna said her consciousness remained intact and that her thoughts instantly shaped her surroundings in the afterlife. "Death is an illusion because our soul never dies," she explained. "I met other beings that I'm not sure were human, but they felt familiar. It changed the course of my life, what I feared no longer had power over me and what I used to chase didn't seem important anymore. I came back with a sense of mission and deep reverence for both life and death."
Meeting Familiar Beings
During this experience, she claimed to have encountered beings she couldn’t identify as human, but they felt familiar. "They communicated without words. I felt completely seen and loved."
She added that the entire universe seemed constructed from patterns and numbers. The experience has since redefined her approach to life and death. “What I used to chase no longer matters. I came back with a sense of mission and a deep reverence for both life and death.”
After being revived, Brianna faced a difficult recovery. Her brain suffered trauma, particularly to her pituitary gland, which required experimental surgery. She also had to relearn basic functions. “The surgery has been a success so far,” she said, but admitted that the idea of another near-death episode makes her nervous. “Recovery is tough.”
