As the tech fraternity was expecting a stable build of Android 14 from Google, the tech giant has surprised many and released the fifth iteration of beta on Thursday. Based on the timeline uploaded by the company in the release notes of previous builds, the final release was expected after July. However, according to GSMArena, the updated graphic now says the time to be after August.
In a blog post, Google said this is the last scheduled update before Android 14's official release. The tech giant added that this is the "last chance" for developers to give feedback before the version is publicly available. The new Android version is available on Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet devices too.
With Beta 5, the OS is almost moving toward stability with the third platform's stability release. Here are a few changes that the tech giant highlighted in the blog.
A user will have the option to grant partial access to media content (such as photos and videos) when an app requests permission. Further, the new Android will restrict apps from pushing full-screen notifications. The version also supports 200 per cent font scaling for low-vision users.
Google fixed a series of issues in this build that ranges from the fingerprint reader to Wi-Fi. This comprehensive list of fixes could be the reason for the delay in the stable release.
To install Beta 5 on a Pixel phone/tablet, a user can enrol for the program from the official website of the company. If a user has already registered in the program, they will receive the update Over The Air (OTA).
Coming to other updates about Android 14, several leaks and rumours have tipped that the upcoming OS may debut with satellite connectivity on eligible devices. Plus, just like iPhones, Android 14 may also have a battery health feature. Besides these, we can expect a plethora of revamps in cosmetics and stronger guardrails in terms of security.
As for more updates, smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Nothing, iQOO, OnePlus and more are also releasing Android 14-based ROMs on select phones.
