Former President Donald Trump has strongly criticised Hollywood actor George Clooney for joining the growing number of people urging President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race. On Truth Social, Trump called Clooney a "fake movie star" and suggested he should "get out of politics and go back to TV."
Trump furiously commented, "Now the so-called movie actor George Clooney, who has never come close to creating a great film, is getting involved."
In his post, Trump wrote, “What does Clooney know about anything? He uses the Democrat ‘talking point’ that Biden, the worst President in the history of the United States, has ‘saved our Democracy.’”
He added, “No, Crooked Joe was the one who weaponised law enforcement against his political opponent, who created the most devastating inflation in the history of our country, who embarrassed our nation in Afghanistan, and whose reckless open-border policy has allowed millions of people, including those from prisons and mental institutions, to illegally pour into our country.”
Clooney's call for a new candidate came a few weeks after Biden had a notable freeze-up at an event he co-hosted and had to be helped offstage by former President Barack Obama.
In his op-ed earlier this week, Clooney expressed, “I admire Joe Biden as a senator, vice president, and president. I consider him a friend and have faith in his character and morals.”
However, Clooney continued, “The one battle he cannot win is against time. None of us can.”
He added, “It’s hard to say, but the Joe Biden I saw at the fundraiser three weeks ago was not the Joe Biden of 2010 or even 2020. He was the same person we saw in the debate.”
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to stay in the presidential race through the November election, despite private requests from some Democrats for him to withdraw. In a letter to congressional Democrats on Monday, Biden stressed his determination to continue his campaign despite growing concerns about his mental fitness.
