At least five people, including two children, died after a massive explosion rocked a house in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya district on Thursday evening.

The emergency services were rushed to the spot after the administration received the information about the blast. The explosion was so massive that the entire building collapsed, after which the deceased were trapped under the debris. The rescue efforts are currently underway to pull out two people trapped under the debris.

The tragic incident took place at 7:00 PM. Among deceased is Ramkumar Gupta, the owner of the house. Earlier on April 13 last year, an explosion occurred at his village home, where he used to run a flour mill. In that explosion, he lost his mother Shivpati, wife Bindu and a child.

After the 2024 incident, he had moved to a new house outside the village and married his sister-in-law. At around 7:00 PM on Thursday, a sudden explosion took place.

District Magistrate Nikhil T Funde and SSP Dr Gaurav Grover, along with a police team, arrived at the scene and are working to rescue the trapped victims.

Gupta was taken to the district hospital in critical condition. However, he was confirmed dead on arrival by at the hospital. According to the locals present at the spot, Gupta's wife and a laborer were buried under the roof. Police teams are removing debris with a JCB to search for them. The cause of the explosion has still not been ascertained.
