The Ayodhya district administration has started to enforce its ban on the sale of meat along multiple routes in the holy city, including Ram Path, Dharma Path, and the 14 Kosi and 5 Kosi Parikrama margs. The administration has sent notices to several shopkeepers along these routes.

Speaking about the notices, Food Safety Officer Manik Chand said that during the Janata Darbar held by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a complaint was lodged alleging opening of meat shops along these lanes in the holy city, famous for the Ram Temple.

Following the complaint, the district administration formed a team to inspect these establishments. The Food Safety Officer confirmed that during the inspection, the team found 22 meat shops operating along these routes.

Subsequently, all 22 meat shops were served notices to relocate their shops within seven days, failing which actions would be initiated against them.

"All meat shops are being issued notices, and they have been given seven days' time to relocate their shops. Action will be taken if they fail to do so," Chand said.

The sale of liquor has also emerged as a key issue along the same routes. Regarding it, Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi said that a ban on liquor sales is being planned for the same areas.

"Discussions regarding the meat ban had been ongoing for a long time. It was decided that the sale of meat must be prohibited on Ram Path," he said.

"We are sure that we will soon ban liquor sales too," he added. In March, CM Yogi issued strict orders enforcing a complete ban on the sale of meat within a radius of 500 metres of the religious sites. He had also ordered to close illegal slaughterhouses in the vicinity of the religious sites.
