A 30-year-old Bangladeshi woman has accused a Noida resident of marrying her three years ago when he was employed by a private company in Dhaka and then deserting her and the couple's one-year-old boy.

Sonia Akhtar claimed her husband, Saurabh Kant Tiwari (45) was already married when he met her in 2021. She arrived in India a few days ago on a legitimate visa.

Tiwari, who was employed by Kaltimex Energy Bangladesh Pvt Ltd, a private company in Bangladesh, allegedly converted to a different religion to marry Akhtar on April 14, 2021.

She said in a complaint submitted to the Noida police on Monday, that Tiwari resided in Bangladesh until December 24, 2021, and then came back to India.

According to Sureshrao A Kulkarni, ACP (law and order), "Initial probe shows Tiwari lived with Akhtar in Bangladesh for some time after their marriage. It seems Tiwari's first wife, who lives in Noida, became suspicious and visited Bangladesh where the two women first met and discussed the issue. Initially, they decided to live together. After Tiwari returned to Noida to his first wife, he planned not to go to Bangladesh again and wanted a divorce from Akhtar."

Akhtar recently traveled to India with the couple's little child and spent a few days at her husband's home. After some argument, she left that home and filed a complaint with the police.

The woman and her child have been relocated to a One Stop Centre, according to Kulkarni.
