As part of the Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to organize a 'Namo Marathon' this Sunday, September 21. The fortnight of service, which runs from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on September 17 to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, will feature the marathon in 16 cities across Uttar Pradesh. The event will be centered around the themes of 'Self-reliant India,' 'Fit India,' and 'Drug-free India'.
The five-kilometer run will be held simultaneously in major cities including Lucknow, Agra, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Meerut, with the party aiming for approximately 10,000 participants in each location. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to inaugurate the marathon in the state capital, Lucknow, while state government ministers and senior BJP officials will serve as chief guests in the other cities.

To ensure widespread participation, the BJP is reaching out to a diverse cross-section of society. Invitations are being extended to students from schools and colleges, fitness clubs, social organisations, and cadets from the NCC and NSS. The party is also inviting prominent business leaders, artists, poets, senior doctors, bar association office-bearers, and retired athletes to join the run.
The primary objective of the marathon is to promote the importance of fitness, health, a clean environment, and a drug-free lifestyle among the youth. Registration for young participants is currently underway, and a three-member referee team is being formed in each city to judge the event.
