The Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against Ajit Prasad, son of Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, for allegedly kidnapping, threatening and assaulting a man. The incident reportedly took place near the State Bank of India’s main branch in Faizabad on Saturday afternoon following a dispute over commission in a land purchase deal. 

According to the FIR, Ajit Prasad, along with five to six others, allegedly assaulted, threatened and kidnapped  a man. The complaint was lodged by Ravi Tiwari at the Kotwali City police station in Faizabad on Saturday. 

The complainant is a resident of Paliya Risali village in the Purakalandar police station area of Ayodhya. Police have stated that a detailed investigation into the matter is underway to verify the claims and gather more evidence regarding the alleged attack.

Ajit Prasad is likely to contest the upcoming by-election for the Milkipur seat, which was vacated after his father Awadhesh Prasad was elected as an MP. However, the Samajwadi Party has not yet officially announced its candidates for the by-elections.

Awadhesh Prasad, a senior member of the Samajwadi Party, currently serves as the MP for Faizabad. Notably, his victory was widely discussed and analysed after the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, where the Samajwadi Party managed to win 37 seats. He was previously a nine-time MLA from various constituencies and has held cabinet positions in the Uttar Pradesh government multiple times.
