Ganga Expressway Update: In another major boost to connectivity across the state, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that the Ganga Expressway, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, will be inaugurated by the end of 2025.
He announced the deadline during the inauguration ceremony of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. The 91 kilometer-long expressway is constructed at a cost of Rs 7283.28 crore and will massively benefit the residents of Gorakhpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Azamgarh. The expressway will significantly cut the travel time and will reduce the traffic congestion. Talking about the Ganga Expressway, he added that the e-way will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
"The Ganga Expressway is being constructed over a length of approximately 600 kilometres, from Meerut to Prayagraj, with excellent connectivity along the route. By the end of this year, we are set to have it formally inaugurated by our Honourable Prime Minister," CM Yogi said.
Ganga Expressway: Lanes, cities, other details
Stretching 594 km from western UP's Meerut to eastern UP's Prayagraj, the Ganga Expressway will have six lanes, expandable to eight.
The expressway will pass through 518 villages in across 12 districts. These districts include Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh.
The expressway has a 3.5 km emergency airstrip for the landing of fighter jets near Shahjahanpur. Once completed, the expressway will significantly reduce the travel time between the two cities. As of now, the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj is 10-12 hours. This will be slashed to 6-8 hours through the Ganga Expressway.
The under-construction expressway is being developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The expressway will begin on Meerut-Bulandshahr Highway at Bijauli village and will terminate near Judapur Dadu village on NH-19 in Prayagraj.
