Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has agreed to conduct a survey for extending the Ganga Expressway to Haridwar via Muzaffarnagar. The decision was made following a request from Muzaffarnagar MLA and state minister Kapil Dev Agarwal. Currently, the Ganga Expressway is under construction from Prayagraj to Meerut.  

Decisions Taken During Maha Kumbh 2025 Cabinet Meeting

Kapil Dev Agarwal shared that during a Cabinet meeting held at Triveni Tirth on the occasion of the Maha Kumbh 2025, CM Yogi made several key decisions for better connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The meeting provided in-principle approval for the construction of the Vindhya Expressway, which will span 320 kilometers, and the Vindhya-Eastern UP Link Expressway, which will be 100 kilometers long.

Chief Minister's Approval For Survey

The Chief Minister has given approval for a survey on extending the Ganga Expressway till Haridwar. Agarwal explained that the construction of expressways is essential for the social and economic development of the region. This is why he requested the Ganga Expressway, which is being built from Prayagraj to Meerut, to be extended through Muzaffarnagar and connected to Haridwar. The Chief Minister agreed to the survey.

CM Yogi Talks With Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

Kapil Dev Agarwal also mentioned that CM Yogi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, over the phone. Dhami welcomed this initiative, stating that if the expressway is extended to Haridwar, travel would become smoother, saving time for commuters. Agarwal added that this would benefit the people of Muzaffarnagar, as travel to both Meerut-Delhi and Haridwar would be easier.

Decision On Vindhya Expressway and Other Projects

The cabinet approved the construction of the Vindhya Expressway, which will be 320 kilometers long connecting the districts of Prayagraj, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Chandauli and Sonbhadra. The Purvanchal Expressway will also be extended and connected to Kashi.

Focus On Regional Development

The Chief Minister emphasised that the development of connectivity networks and industrial projects is underway in the state. Currently, the western, central, eastern, and Bundelkhand regions of the state are covered by expressways. Now, the construction of an expressway in the distant southeastern Vindhya region is necessary for its social and economic development.
