In a shocking incident from Ghaziabad’s Govindpuri area, a 75-year-old jeweller was stabbed to death during a robbery at his shop on Thursday morning. The brutal crime was captured on CCTV, showing a man, wearing a monkey cap, entering the shop. He first threw red chilli powder into the jeweller’s face and then proceeded to stab him at least ten times.

The accused was caught by the public after a brief chase. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari, the attacker, identified as Ankit, entered Girdhari Lal Verma’s jewellery shop with the intent to steal. When Verma resisted, Ankit stabbed him three times, causing his immediate death.

Ankit had recently lost Rs 20 lakh in online gaming and had targeted Verma due to his ownership of three jewellery shops and his considerable wealth. Police further revealed that Ankit had watched heist videos on YouTube in preparation for the crime, according to news agency PTI.

Upon hearing the commotion, Verma’s 46-year-old son, Rupinder Verma, who lived above the shop, rushed downstairs to intervene. He sustained injuries during the struggle but, with the help of a neighbor, was able to overpower the attacker and hold him until the police arrived.
