Ghaziabad has witnessed a rise in Dengue cases, following recent rains, with over 15 cases reported in four days. The total number of patients in the city has reached 66.
Acting on the situation, MO Dr Akhilesh Mohan has made dengue testing mandatory for all fever patients arriving at district hospitals and all health centres. District Surveillance Officer RK Gupta stated that after the detection of three new cases on August 5, five on August 6, two on August 7, and five on August 8, teams have intensified efforts to detect and destroy mosquito larvae and spray insecticides in high-risk areas.
Public awareness campaigns are ongoing, urging residents to prevent water accumulation around homes.
Key precautions include:
- Drain water from coolers and cover rooftop tanks.
- Remove rainwater from roofs and containers used for birds.
- Clean old tyres and broken pots kept outdoors.
- Turn buckets and tubs upside down when away from home.
- Wear full-sleeved clothing and cover your legs, as Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day.
- Ensure rubbish and stagnant water are cleared, seeking help from councillors or village heads.
In case of fever, residents are advised to take only paracetamol and avoid painkillers like Disprin or Brufen. Free dengue and malaria tests are available at the IDSP lab at District MMG Hospital.
