In a major step to decongest the roads, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has proposed two elevated corridors at Raj Nagar Extension and GT Road areas, the officials said on Wednesday.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the GDA has also proposed a flyover at the Hapur Chungi intersection.
Elevated corridor at Raj Nagar Extension
The GDA officials said that they have proposed an elevated corridor section at Raj Nagar Extension, which will be 3.5 km long and will have 4 lanes.
It will stretch from Raj Nagar Extension cross to Morti and is likely to take shape at a cost of Rs 350 crore.
The Raj Nagar Extension corridor will act as a bypass for the long-distance commuters coming from Delhi while using the Hindon elevated corridor
At present, these commuters use the RNE’s 4-laned surface road along with the local commuters, which leads to congestion and snarls.

During peak hours, the traffic woes deepen, thereby causing delays for the long-distance commuters. Once completed, the corridor will connect commuters to the Delhi-Meerut Road.
At GT Road
On the other hand, another section of 2 lanes will be built from near Ghanta Ghar Ramlila Ground to near the Bhatia Morh flyover on the GT Road.
The stretch is likely to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. It will help long-distance commuters heading towards National Highway 9, Bulandshahr, and Gautam Budh Nagar. Moreover, the corridor will also reduce the traffic strain on the GT Road stretch near Ghanta Ghar.
Speaking about the proposal, GDA vice-chairperson Nand Kishore Kalal said, "Both the elevated sections have been proposed to be funded from the infrastructure development funds, and a proposal has been sent to the state government for approval. All the projects are aimed at decongesting major roads in the city and also for providing seamless connectivity to local and long-distance commuters".

Flyover at Hapur Chungi
The flyover will connect the ALT Center near Kamla Nehru Nagar to the Diamond Flyover at Shastri Nagar. It will be a 1.5 km flyover with four lanes.
The flyover is estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 150 crore. The flyover is second near the location as the district administration has already proposed a 1.2 km, 4-lane flyover from near the district collectorate to Shastri Nagar, moving over the Hapur Chungi intersection.
