A shocking incident took place in the Shahpur area of Gorakhpur on Wednesday night around 8 PM, where a man shot and killed his wife, Mamta Chauhan, in the middle of a busy market. Immediately after the incident, people at the scene rushed Mamta to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The accused, Vishwakarma, was an addict and was also having affairs with several other women. Fed up with all this, his wife Mamta had decided to live separately from him. She had moved into a rented house with their daughter and had also filed for divorce in the Family Court.

The accused, Vishwakarma, is the youngest of four brothers and used to work in Mumbai. Even at that time, he was having an affair with a woman there, while his wife lived in Gorakhpur. Two years ago, he quit his job and returned to Gorakhpur. After his father's retirement, he pressured him to sell his share of the land and wasted all the money on his addiction. After this, fights between the husband and wife became a daily occurrence. When Mamta started working at a private company on Bank Road, Vishwakarma became suspicious of her and started pressuring her to leave the job. Tired of this harassment, Mamta left home with her daughter. Even after that, Vishwakarma would often go to her rented room to start a fight.

In her statement to the police, the daughter said that her father did not care about her at all. He was always intoxicated and used to torture her mother physically and mentally. Her mother was extremely disturbed by her father's behavior.

According to eyewitnesses, after shooting his wife, the accused Vishwakarma sat at the spot for some time. Because he had a pistol in his hand, people did not have the courage to go near him. Just then, seeing a police car arrive, he tried to run away, but the people present there chased him down and caught him.

Later, she was handed over to her paternal cousin who arrived at the station. The police have said that further legal action will be taken after a written complaint is received against the accused.
