The Greater Noida Authority on Thursday launched a major anti-encroachment drive against illegal constructions in the flood plain area of the notified Tugalpur. Acting on the directions of Authority CEO NG Ravi Kumar, officials from the Project and Land Records Department, supported by local police, demolished unauthorised structures and reclaimed nearly 40,000 square metres of land.

Authority officials said certain developers were attempting to establish an illegal colony on the flood plain. The Authority has now taken possession of the reclaimed area.

ACEO Sumit Yadav cautioned the public against investing in illegal colonies and warned of stringent action against those constructing without due approvals. He urged buyers to verify land details with the Authority before making any purchase in Greater Noida to avoid financial loss.

OSD Land Records, Ramnayan Singh, stated that developers had encroached upon land under Khasra number 703 and adjoining plots, despite clear NGT directives prohibiting any form of construction on floodplains.

The Authority had previously issued a notice for the removal of the encroachment, which went unheeded. On Thursday, a demolition team led by OSD Singh and Project Department General Manager AK Singh, along with officials including Rajesh Kumar Nim, Senior Managers Nagendra Singh and Narottam Singh, carried out the operation using seven JCBs and three dumper trucks. The drive continued for nearly two hours.

The OSD reiterated that illegal constructions in notified areas or flood plains will attract tough legal action along with demolition.
