Superintendent of Police (SP) Gyananjay Singh reported that late on Wednesday night, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kotwali station, Vinod Pandey, was conducting checks with his team. An encounter took place between Kotwali Nagar police and criminals late on Wednesday night during a police check. An informant then reported that a notorious criminal was travelling towards the Badnauli road on a motorcycle.
Exchange Of Fire And Arrest
Acting on the information, the police team began intensive checks on the Badnauli road. Meanwhile, the police spotted a suspicious individual approaching on a motorcycle. The police signalled for him to stop, but the accused attempted to flee. When pursued, the criminal opened fire on the police team. The police returned fire in self-defence, injuring the criminal. In the exchange of fire, a notorious criminal was injured by a gunshot and arrested at the scene. The injured criminal has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Identification And Recovery
The arrested criminal has been identified as Jitendra, from Uski Janupura village in the Garhmukteshwar police station area. He had been living in Tiyala village, within the Dehat police station area, for a considerable time. A country-made pistol, one live cartridge, two spent cartridges, a stolen Splendor motorcycle, and Rs 1,700 were recovered from the arrested criminal.
Criminal History And Legal Action
The criminal has 21 criminal cases registered against him in police stations across Meerut, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Hapur districts for offences including vehicle theft, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act. The criminal will be presented in court after receiving medical treatment.
