The India Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) began on Monday at the India Expo Centre and Mart, with industry leaders highlighting a major export opportunity created by ongoing trade dynamics between the United States and China. The event features over 3,000 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of home, lifestyle, fashion, and furniture products.
The fair was inaugurated by Tarun Rathi, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council, alongside Ramveer Singh, MLA for Kundarki (Moradabad), and Dr Evgeny Griva, Deputy Trade Commissioner of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Key Opportunities And Discussions
US Tariffs On China Create Opening For India
A central theme of the inauguration was the potential for Indian exporters to capture a larger share of the American market. Both government officials and industry leaders pointed to additional import duties being imposed by the US on Chinese goods.
Tarun Rathi noted that these tariffs have motivated American buyers to increase their sourcing from India. He also suggested this could "open wide doors for Indian exporters to cater to China as a significant market." Echoing this sentiment, EPCH Chairman Dr Neeraj Khanna confirmed they are actively engaging with American buyers to capitalize on this shift, stating that increased tariffs on China are expected to boost demand for Indian products and create substantial export prospects.
Strengthening Trade Ties With Russia
Dr Evgeny Griva highlighted the 70-year trade relationship between India and Russia. He acknowledged a recent decline but stated that trade is now "making a strong start again and seeing remarkable growth." He invited Indian businesses to attend exhibitions in Russia, emphasising that new geopolitical developments are creating a promising era for bilateral trade.
Local Industry And Future Prospects
Moradabad's Dominant Presence
MLA Ramveer Singh expressed his satisfaction that 40 per cent of the products displayed at the fair originate from the Moradabad region, underscoring the area's critical role in India's handicrafts sector.
Noida Film City To Boost Handicrafts
