Kanpur Scooter Blast: A day after a deadly explosion took place in parked scooters in Kanpur, which injured eight people, the police have revealed that the blast occurred due to firecrackers. The police have apprehended the main accused in the incident while dismissing five police officers, including the ACP and SHO, for negligence. 

In a press conference, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said the explosive materials were kept in a box, which burst, causing the scooters to catch fire. He said that the incident is related to the sale and storage of illegal firecrackers in the area, and two godowns have been sealed. 

The police detained the main accused, Parvez, and his son, along with 12 other people. As investigations continued, another name, Tariq, emerged among the suspects. who is expected to be apprehended soon.

Earlier, the police had hinted at the possibility of a conspiracy. Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar said, "It was initially suspected that a bomb had been planted in a scooter. We informed the agencies and the ATS. Seeing the damage to the front portion of the vehicle, a bomb was suspected. However, after reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to people at the site, we found that an illegal firecracker market was operating there."

In total, eight people suffered injuries. While two have been discharged, four are undergoing treatment at the Ursula hospital located nearby. Two people with critical injuries have been moved to the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.

Kanpur Blast

According to the CCTV footage of a shop located near the blast site, the incident took place on Wednesday at 6:50 PM when two scooters parked near the busy market in Kanpur exploded. Following the blast, the police conducted a search and seizure operation while deploying teams of the fire brigade, bomb disposal squad and forensic team. The Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) was later deployed at night to carry out investigations at the blast site. 

A large quantity of illegal firecrackers and cotton bombs were seized from several locations, including a garment shop, in an overnight operation.
