At least six workers died while several others suffered injuries after an explosion in a firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Sunday. The incident took place on Amwa road near Bharwari town, where the blast caused panic among the locals after they heard a loud noise and saw the smoke from miles away.

The factory, owned by Shahid Ali and rented from Sharafat Ali, was located in Khalilabad (Maheva) colony on Amwa Road. The workers were making firecrackers when the explosion occurred, leaving their bodies mutilated and scattered around the premises. The factory was covered in blood and debris.

Two workers were thrown into the air by the force of the blast and landed in a field about 10 metres away from the factory’s boundary wall. They were severely burnt and died on the spot. Police later took their bodies into custody while an investigation into the incident is underway.

The explosion was so powerful that it blew off the tin shed and the rear wall of the factory. Firecrackers were also set off by the blast and flew out of the factory, creating a fire hazard in the surrounding area. People living nearby ran for their lives, while those living farther away were terrified by the sound and the sight of the fire.

Police and the fire department arrived at the scene and conducted a rescue operation for about five hours. They faced resistance from the angry villagers, who pelted stones at them and accused them of negligence. The police had to call for reinforcements from Fatehpur and Pratapgarh districts and deploy the PAC to control the situation.
