Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: Travel between Uttar Pradesh’s state capital, Lucknow, and the state’s industrial capital, Kanpur, is set to be fast and smooth with the opening of the much-awaited Lucknow-Kanpur expressway.
Officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that the expressway will be inaugurated by the first week of December during a review meeting, quoted Times of India. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by November 30, post which the inauguration date will be announced. Once completed, the stretch will be opened after a trial run. Trial runs will ensure that the entire stretch of the road is motorable.
How Will The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Benefit Commuters?
Currently, the travel time from Lucknow to Kanpur is usually one to three hours. However, with the opening of this route, the travel time between the two major cities will be cut in half, taking only 35-40 minutes in total.

Lanes: 6 (with provision to extend to 8)
Connecting points: Shaheed Path (Lucknow) to Azad Marg (Kanpur)
Cost: Rs 4700 crore
It passes through Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas.
The government has declared it as National Expressway 6 (NE 6)
The expressway will run parallel to National Highway 27, which currently connects the two cities.

Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: Safety Features
The Lucknow-Kanpur expressway will have three rest areas at Aderwa, Padri Khurd and Unnao. It also includes a 10-bed hospital, trauma centre and ambulance services for emergencies. Five toll plazas and six entry-exit points have been built to ensure the smooth and safe progress of traffic.
The 63 Km Lucknow Kanpur Expressway is a major infrastructure project set to reduce travel time between the two cities to under 45 minutes.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that no liquor shops will be built along the expressway. The Uttar Pradesh government has given around Rs 800 crore to the landowners in Lucknow and Unnao for land acquisition for the construction of the expressway. This has reportedly benefited 42 villages.
NHAI’s Regional Project Director, Sanjeev Sharma, said, quoted Times of India, “The Unnao to Banthra stretch is finished, while work on the elevated Lucknow section will conclude soon.”
