A man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow on Monday after a video showing him hitting a cab driver with the butt of his pistol went viral on social media. The accused, identified as Vinod Mishra and claims to be an international-level shooter, assaulted the cab driver in the upscale Vibhutikhand area of the city in broad daylight.

According to police reports, Mishra and the cab driver got into an argument following a minor collision between their vehicles. After the cab collided with Mishra's Safari, Mishra took out his vehicle and assaulted the cab driver with his licensed pistol.

The cab driver filed a complaint, leading to an FIR and Mishra's subsequent arrest. The viral video also caught the attention of the UP Congress, which criticised the YogiAdityanath-led BJP  government in the state for the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

"This video is from Lucknow, the capital of the state ruled by you. See, where you shamelessly stand at rallies and talk about law and order from the open stage, this is the condition of the same state," UP Congress posted on X. 

The Lucknow Police responded to the viral video and confirmed the arrest of the accused, assuring that further legal action would be taken accordingly.

“In connection with the viral video on social media, where a man can be seen hitting with the butt of a pistol in the Vibhutikhand police station area, a case was immediately registered and the above accused was arrested. His licensed pistol was also confiscated,’’ Lucknow Police said.
