Commuters travelling on National Highway 27 (NH-27) between the capital city and Kanpur can now enjoy a swifter, pothole-free journey. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the reconstruction of a significant stretch of the highway just past Bani, resolving previous issues of road damage and traffic congestion.

The improvements have made the journey significantly more pleasant for all travellers. According to NHAI Regional Officer Sanjeev Sharma, no compromise on the road's quality will be permitted, and the thickness of the road has been considerably increased. This has not only allowed for higher vehicle speeds but has also completely eliminated the difficulties previously faced by two-wheelers and small-wheeled vehicles.

In a move to ensure long-term quality, PNC, the company responsible for building the new Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, will also handle the maintenance of the existing NH-27 for the next 15 years. This ensures that travellers between the two cities will have a smooth experience, whether they use the national highway or the future expressway.

Pending Repairs And Unresolved Issues

While the main highway is repaired, other related issues are yet to be fully addressed:

Banthra To Bani Connecting Road: The connecting road from Banthra to Bani remains in poor condition. NHAI officials have stated that this road will be fully repaired and resurfaced with tarmac after the expressway construction is complete and before its formal inauguration. For now, only temporary pothole repairs are being conducted to keep it operational.

Naderganj Flyover Concerns: Several problems persist on the Naderganj flyover.

Incomplete Noise Barrier: A noise barrier, crucial for the area, has only been partially installed by the PNC company, with over half the section still incomplete. This lapse allows for easy photography and videography of the adjacent airport premises.

Lack of Street Lights: The flyover currently has no street lighting. Lights that were previously installed were removed after an objection from the airport administration, and NHAI has not yet provided an alternative. The danger of this was evident on Thursday night when a lorry broke down on the dark flyover with non-functional rear lights, causing difficulties for traffic and creating a serious risk of an accident.
