Indian Railways introduced a QR code-based ticket booking system, offering a seamless digital solution for passengers during the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative allows travellers to scan QR codes on railway staff uniforms or posters in the Mahakumbh Mela area to book tickets conveniently.

Passengers can use their smartphones to scan the QR code, which redirects them to download the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app from the Google Play Store. The app enables the booking of tickets for short trips (50-100 km) and long-distance journeys exceeding 200 km, with advanced booking available for up to 15 days for the latter.

The Mahakumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, will attract millions of pilgrims. Indian Railways has planned over 13,000 train services, including 3,000 special trains and 560 ring rail route services, to manage the massive influx of passengers in the next two months. These trains will enhance connectivity between key locations like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Jaunpur and Chitrakoot.

In preparation for the event, Prayagraj railway stations have been transformed under the ‘Paint My City’ initiative. Stations such as Prayagraj Junction, Phaphamau and Prayag Junction now feature vibrant murals depicting Hindu mythology, devotion and traditions, providing visitors with a cultural and spiritual experience.
